great shredder for a great price

I have a space behind my monitor and the edge of the desk where this compact shredder fits perfectly. It’s out of the way but yet easily assessable by just reaching behind my monitor. It has a nice weight to it and works perfectly. This was just what I was looking for and can see using it for many years.

    Does the job

The media could not be loaded.

Shredder works really good and fast. Shreds credit cards just as quick as paper. I wish the handle was longer that pulls out on the side, its short so you’ll have to use a smaller trash can or box.

Portable and gets the job done

Loved that this came without a trash bin (which I didn’t need) and is easy to stash away when not needed. I plan to use this to periodically shred a handful of sensitive mail items every few weeks. It easily took on this job and feels like a quality item that will last. I expect to get my money’s worth. That said, the description says it can shred up to 8 pages at a time, but I wouldn’t go more than 4-5 tops. If you’re looking for a light duty, durable, portable shredder and are willing to be mindful/patient with your shredding task, this will fit the bill.

Love it. Very small. Great for the occasional use.

We love it. It is very small so we store it tucked away on the shelf. The plain A4 sheet won’t fit, so you have to fold it. We process two sheets at a time. It is great for the occasional use. We also spray it once in a while with olive oil, run it and then wipe the excess.

Amazing little compact shredder! So happy I chose this one!

This is a great, small shredder for home use. It only shreds 4 pages at a time so I was considering buying one that could shred 8 or more pages but they are all too big. This one is just the right size so I don’t mind only shredding 4 pages at a time bc it works great and doesn’t take up much space at all. I’ve included a photo of it next to one of the medium sized, 32 ounce gatorade bottles so that you can see just how compact it is in comparison. Even though it isn’t huge, it holds a lot. I don’t have to empty it as often as I thought I would have just by looking at it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much the small basket actually holds.I just shredded a whole shopping bag of old bills and documents to test it out and it didn’t overheat at all and got it done super fast! It looks great, I love the clear basket with the little pockets on the side for holding your pens, the tool to clear paper jams that it comes with or anything else that you want to store there. By the way, I haven’t had to use the paper jam tool yet and I just shredded a pile of stuff. I’m so glad I went with the more compact, smaller model shredder bc it works just as well as any office shredder that I’ve used. The only negative is that you have to fold pages vertically before inserting them though bc the paper slot isn’t as wide as a standard sheet of paper. That doesn’t matter though bc it shreds so quick and efficiently that folding some pages doesn’t add much time to the task. If you want a cute, compact, efficient shredder for your home office or for just normal, everyday use then get this one. It’s perfect! I will update my review if I run into any issues.

    Desktop Shredder

Nice, small enough to fit on any sized desk or table.Price was $30. I have another desktop shredder I bought 5 years ago, but my son borrowed it. That shredder was $80 with a $30 rebate at Staples. It’s almost the same size as this one, but more squared.I’m making him bring my old one back. That takes up to 12 sheets of paper, and has a slot wide enough to run an 8.5″ wide sheet of paper through without jamming. This one has a narrow slot. The instruction book says the slot is wide enough for an A4 envelope, which is a regular sized business envelope, but I found that a bit optimistic. It’s really about 3.5″ wide instead of 4″.And, you DEFINITELY CANNOT put more than 4 thicknesses of paper through at once, because it will jam. Badly. It comes with a pick tool, which isn’t very useful. The metal points on the pick are OK, but the handle is flexible plastic. I couldn’t get it to pry out much. I used a pair of very thin tweezers to clear the jams instead. It has a pocket on each side of the opaque white plastic container, apparently to hold the pick, or cleansing papers. That doesn’t work well, though. The first day I used the shredder, I kept putting the pick back in a side pocket, then dumping it out on the floor every time I turned it upside down to empty it. Now the pick and tweezers live in a Styrofoam cup near the shredder. The top piece on this shredder is the shredder itself, which I actually prefer. My old one has a container that slides in to the base’s casing. The old shredder itself doesn’t come off, so if it does jam, I have to unplug it, and put my hand up in the casing and feel around.I can see the jams with the new one, which makes them easier to clear. Both will shred a credit card, although the new shredder really grinds. I don’t think it would shred a CD or DVD.The main thing I don’t like about the new shredder is that the cut up strips of paper are about 1/4″ wide, but 3″ to 4″ long. Most good shredders cut strips 1/4″ wide, and 1″ long. Most identity theft experts say the strips shouldn’t be more than inch long.Between the too-long strips and the dinky slot, it’s not something I would buy again.

    Great compact crosscut shredder

This is small enough to put away on a closet shelf. Standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheets need to be folded in half. I wouldn’t recommend for shredding a lifetime of paper but once you’ve accomplished that, it’s great for ongoing maintenance to shred a few sheets here and there.

    Perfect size!

Great little shredder. You do have to fold paper in half in order to get it through the opening, however, the ease and size are worth a bit of extra work. Not great for a ton to shred, but for notes or mail, it is just perfect.

    Doesn’t take an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper

The product has a strong motor and shreds great. The problem is that the entry slot for paper doesn’t fit an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. Every piece of paper must be folded in half in order to fit into the shredder. It’s time consuming and not really designed for shredding multiple pages quickly.

    A Nifty Little Thing

I’ve been using my debit card a lot lately since I have money to spend now, and I’ve grown aware of the ease of identity theft, since such misfortune had visited my sister not too long ago. I figured a shredding machine would help put my mind at ease, while eliminating my ever-building pile of receipts. I wanted to find a shredding machine that would be compact, yet reliable (I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it). I had found this machine, with its aesthetically pleasing design and its very attractive price tag, and decided to give it a try. I’ve been using it for a few days, and I’d like to share my findings.First, its size. While it is small and lightweight enough to be placed on your desk, it also means the bin holding shredded paper is small. You’ll find yourself cleaning the bin very often, which isn’t too bad. You can easily pick it up and pour it into a wastebasket or garbage bag without spilling small pieces of paper everywhere.Second, the shredding blades. The machine is VERY noisy (which you’ll easily notice the moment you turn it on). Strangely, though, you’d think with the powerful rotation and excessive noise, it would be capable of slicing paperclips and the like in half. In reality, folding a piece of paper to fit into the slot (which is barely bigger than a piece of paper folded vertically) results in the blades spinning about half as well. I have not tried four pages or more yet, but I can easily see it jamming. The third point is related to both first and second. When you open the top to empty the basket, you’ll notice about half of the shredded remains in the bucket are actually stuck in the blades in some way, which means you’ll have to hold the top of the shredding machine over your designated wastebasket and pull pieces of paper out, like pulling dead leaves off a rake. It is a mild inconvenience, but the machine is lightweight enough to make the process easier. All in all, I’d say this machine is absolutely perfect if you plan to use a shredding machine specifically to destroy receipts or bank statements, with the occasional larger document like an invoice. If you’re looking for a machine to destroy primarily large documents, and in a larger quantity, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.

    Happy with my little shredder.

I put off buying another paper shredder for a long time, especially since most things are now paperless, and I’ve put myself on permanent opt-out prescreen a long time ago, save some obnoxiously persistent junk mails. Needless to say, I don’t have alot of paper to shred. Still, having to open all these mails and tear them to little pieces every so often, all the while a little annoy and angry, starts to bother me. So I bought a shredder. And I know that I absolutely detest the regular sized ones (weird, I know). So, this tiny shredder is just perfect. Thanks to other reviews, I was aware of the small slot size, and the fact that it takes 2 folded papers at a time, so no surprises there. I tested it right away, and it works great (got no expired credit credit card to shred, so haven’t tested that. Saw mixed reviews on those. Also saw markings stated that it should go in the middle of the slot only, not sure if that has anything to do with the negative reviews). Some reviews said that it’s not a cross cut. I could be wrong, but I’m quite sure that this IS cross cut, just not confetti small, small enough, and definitely not a long strip cut throughout the length of a paper. Anyhow, I think we should keep our expectations in check. This shredder is perfect for my use case, but it might not be for every one.

    Not quite as described

I bought this because I needed a shredder and was looking for a smaller cross-cut. What I received was not a cross-cut, it was a strip-cut shredder, so very disappointed in that and a big thumbs down to not getting what I paid for. It is also pretty small. A bit smaller than I expected, so you will need to empty often if you are shredding a lot. It does do the job though if you’re looking for smaller and can get what you actually ordered.

    Somewhat flimsy, but does work!

This was our replacement strip shredder for the not-working Woolsche shredder we bought & returned last week. So far, so good. It isn’t real sturdy, but the pull out bar does allow it to fit the blue recycle basket we already have. Once adjusted, it is stable. I shredded up to 5 sheets easily. After that it was groaning and slow. I thought it might die, so will only do max of 5 sheets at once. Haven’t tried cd or credit card yet so cant say if it works or not. Since I shred daily after i go through the mail, i dont expect too much trouble. It does seem that it gets hot quickly, so I doubt it would hold up to 30-40 min of steady document grinding. For that you may want a sturdier, more expensive shredder. This is fine for our light household needs. Very affordable. Delivered quickly, came in great shape. We are pleased with this purchase and hope it lasts at least a few years. Prior shredder lasted 12 yearrs! Doubt we will see that kind of durability with this one.

    Does Job but…

The shredder works fine but the curve of the brackets that are supposed to hug the rim of the can are way too curved so it doesn’t mount, or stay on well at all. It would benefit greatly from less curve so it at least sets flat on the can.

    Meets my needs!

As others mentioned, you can’t pick it up by the handle (the top is designed to come off when you pull the handle allowing the user to empty the accumulated shredded paper). I just happened to have a basket with handles in which to stow it as I only get it out periodically. In the meantime it’s in my closet. The only drawback to this shredder is that it’s not designed to shred 8.5″ x 11″ paper without first folding the paper. This involves an extra step and also reduces the amount of paper you can feed at once as each sheet is now twice as thick. It’s fine for someone like me who shreds sparingly. Like all shredders, you have to empty the shredded paper as you go and give the shredder frequent breaks. If you don’t, it will power off to prevent the motor from overheating. It’s not broken tho, just resting. All in all it’s a great little machine and the only reason I deducted one star is because I have to fold most of my paper. TBS, I am used to it now and just prefold my stack before I commence shredding.

This compact shredder works great for my home office and for the few paper bills I still receive in the mail. I’ve had the shredder for a couple of years now and it still works great. I don’t use it constantly, but I do appreciate having this compact little shredder that I can pop onto the countertop and shred things when I need to. It doesn’t overheat, it’s a little loud, but it shreds better than others that are this small and compact.

Shredder is cracked and broken after less than a year

I used this shredder sparingly and have owned it for 10 months. I followed the guidance on how many folds in the paper it could handle and unfolded/cut paper to accommodate those requirements. I also oiled the machine to keep it running properly. Despite what I would consider to be light use, the shredder has developed cracks. I reached out to Aurora’s customer service, and they have refused to honor their warranty policy because they believe that the paper strips you see on the blades in these photographs are adhesives (which this machine cannot handle). They are not adhesives. To say that any paper shreds remaining on the blades after shredding is a bad faith argument; of course some paper will remain after multiple rounds of shredding. As I mentioned, I oil the machine as well and that sometimes causes the paper to stick but overall allows the machine to run smoothly. I warn others that if you do buy this machine, do not expect the machine to last and when it does break do not expect the warranty to cover a replacement.

    Treat it like a Tamagochi

Note: you have to fold paper in half lengthwise. This little shredder is a delicate creature, but it will totally destroy two pieces of paper or a credit card. Feed it small amounts regularly, but take your shredding backlog elsewhere.

    Good Desktop Shredder for Receipts

I purchased this shredder to replace an old Royal shredder that literally fell apart. I actually found it hard to find a shredder that was compact and cross-cut the paper. I settled on this shredder due to the feature set, price, and other positive reviews.I noticed a lot of reviews about people complaining that they had to fold a piece of paper in half to shred it. It’s pretty clear that was the case, and based on the size of the shredder I can’t imagine why anyone would think it was designed to shred full sheets of paper natively. This shredder is PERFECT for a basic desktop shredder. I use the shredder to shred receipts, credit card offers, and any other item that has personal information on it. That is exactly what I used my last desktop shredder for, and would imagine that’s the primary purpose for any “desktop” shredder. This shredder is compact, relatively quiet, and shreds just fine. The cross-cut isn’t as fine as my last shredder, but it gets the job done. It has a safety cut-off switch, so that when you remove the shredder from the basket, it will not turn on. The handle folds down into the shredder to leave it with a smooth top.One oddity I found was that it came with what I assume is some kind of cleaning instrument. What’s odd about it is that the documentation does not mention this tool ANYWHERE. In fact, it even says not to try to clean out the teeth of the shredder. Weird. My only two complaints are that the cross-cut shreds aren’t as fine as I’d like, and when the unit is in the “ON” position there is a green LED that stays lit.I recommend this shredder to anyone looking for a good desktop shredder for receipts and junk mail.

Small but works well for my purposes

I would have liked a slightly larger capacity shredder. But this one was the closest I could find to replace one I’d had for at least 20+ years. I only used it to shred my address torn off of envelopes, junk mail with my personal information on it and the occasional sheet of paper the same thickness as my printer paper. I did try to grind up my old triple A membership card and was disappointed that the otherwise “mighty” grinding teeth were stopped in their tracks after a second or so. Since I don’t have to cut up many plastic cards, this isn’t a big deal. SO, bottom line: If you don’t do a lot of shredding–or you don’t mind emptying the receptacle repeatedly–it’s a nice little machine. I haven’t used it more than a half dozen times, so I can’t vouch for it’s longevity. But I’m satisfied so far for the sporadic use I put it through and would buy it again for that purpose–as long as it lasts for many years before “retiring.”

Not Quite a Toy, but Close…!

On the plus side, this shredder is small, attractive for display in a home office– and to its credit–it does work. On the negative side, the opening will only accommodate a greeting card envelope that has been torn in half, and that is all of the thickness that it can shred. If the box had not been thrown out, it would have been returned.

Perfect for a little shredding now and then

I love this little guy! Perfect for me, a casual shredder who’s just trying to get rid of some old bills and credit cards that had piled up around my home. It’s small and compact, which I love because it means I can hide it in a closet when I’m not using it — I live in a small space, so I didn’t want a big machine that was going to sit out all the time.Pros:-small compact size.-Can shred anything — I’ve done credit cards, card stock, mult. sheets, it’s done well.-not super loudCons. (All minor)-Fills up fast (I don’t really mind, but some will)-Takes time. You need to fold single sheets into halves and can’t do HUGE batches at a time-when the bin gets close to full, the top gets pushed up from the shredded paper below and pauses the feeder (the shredder doesn’t work unless it’s firmly on the base). So when you’re like 3/4 full you either need to empty it, or push down on the top to keep the feeder going.I would buy again. This suits my small needs, but there are better more powerful shredders out there that can handle large capacity. I hope this guy gets used enough that I never have the need to upgrade!

    Very useful

The overall product is very helpful. I had a box full of important documents that I no longer needed and was able to shred them and protect my information. While using it, I did notice that handfuls of paper would get stuck in the metal blades inside, so I would have to stop and clean the blades out after a few minutes of shredding, which was slightly annoying. But if you’re looking for something that’s small and convenient, this would be perfect for you.

    could use improvements

Well it shreds paper, I can say that. Haven’t tried the CD or CC shred since I have none to shred.I do have a few pet peeves though. I don’t like the way it fits over my wastebasket. I have a standard office size wastebasket that has a more rectangular top shape. Seems this shredder is for a more oval one maybe? It doesn’t fit except toward the front of my wastebasket (and it’s not a perfect fit), which means if I want to throw something in the basket (not shred it) I have to reach toward the back of the wastebasket where the shredder isn’t. Which isn’t a big deal except the damn cord for the shredder is located in the back middle of the shredder so it is in the way of throwing anything away in the wastebasket! So, it’s just not a good fit for the basket. Why couldn’t they put the cord on the side, out of the way? I guess it would be out of the way if it fit on the back of the wastebasket like my old Fellows did.The other pet peeve is the operation button. Except it isn’t a button, it is a slide switch. Auto is the first option to the left, Off is in the middle and Reverse is slide to right. Now the problem is switching it to the Off position. Almost every time I slide it right past Off and to reverse which spits out all the paper I just shredded. Why position them this way? If it was Off, Auto and then Reverse, I could avoid the reverse as I would be sliding it to the left to turn it off, not the right. Poor design, imo. I would have preferred push buttons or flip switch at least. It’s going to take some getting used to and paying more attention I guess. I miss my old Fellows, which would still be running, had I not hopelessly jammed it.

    Okay for Space and Price

If your looking for a convenient shredder that isn’t a piece of hand-cranked crap and small enough this is it. The downside to this shredder however is that it *is* so small, that the paper have to be folded letter-style to use. For light-use and small document shredder this is alright. Maybe even for some arts and crafts. For long-term use and durability, look elsewhere. This shredder will accumulate paper often which requires cleaning (even when the instructions say NOT too because of obvious hazard reasons, but if it’s not cleaned then the papers will stick)Pros:Small enough to fit in tighter spaces.Comes with a paper-opener on the side and two pockets to slip something in.Easy Lift Handle on top.Auto detection, reverse and shut-off/over-heat feature.Cons:JamFest: This shredder can get jammed too easily if your not careful. Because of it’s small size the papers will fill up faster. I have lifted the shredder up multiple times, just to find shredded pieces still sticking to the blades underneath. Although the instructions say NOT to clean it, in order to avoid jams I removed some of the papers then let the machine run in reverse mode afterwards to ditch the rest. But I make sure NOT to use my hands at all during the cleaning but use the blade of paper-opener. For safety reasons make sure the machine is turned off and unplugged. The metal teeth are sharp enough that it shouldn’t be cleaned with bare hands.CreditJam: Although this shredder advertises to take credit-card, some of the thickness of the cards can get easily jammed in this machine. I’ve placed one card into the machine and watch it strain itself to chop the single plastic piece down. Not good compared to other shredders that had no problems chopping down cards. This one goes into a near semi-strain like an old man with a back ache.Bucket Overfloweth: Again due to it’s small size this shredder will require constantly dumping and reversing(to loosen up paper) to keep it going. So if your someone who has a box-full of documents it will take time to shred it all.Small Opening and Thin Papers: The Aurora opener is designed in a way that forces the consumer to fold their documents in letter-style before inserting them into the machine. Not only do I consider this a tedious waste of time (depending on how many documents must be shred) but also the other fact of the machine’s ability to only take thin, 3 piece papers at a time. If paper isn’t continuously fed through the machine will automatically shut itself off in auto mode(the only “on” mode available except reverse which is reserved for jams). The Aurora isn’t bad for the price, but there are other choppers out there that do the job more efficiently and better.=====Update 12/11/2013=====Be aware although Aurora comes with a warranty the shredder may have a higher potential of burning out. This is in due to the the motor straining to chop up envelopes and the jams that occur. Although my Aurora has not burned out this shredder has a harder time chopping up the average envelope and is noisy while doing so.

Just the right size for small space

Those of us that live in tiny homes, RVs, and other small spaces need to downsize and this is a great shredder for my space. I have to tear pages in half to fit the slot but it shreds great.

    Small but mighty!

It’s really difficult to work from home without a shredder. My husband had bought an industrial size one that doesn’t fit in our home, but this Aurora AS420C is GREAT. I was skeptical about the power it would have based on its size, but it definitely does the job well. I fold an 8×10 page in half (sometimes two pages) and it feeds quickly. I also like that it’s a cross shredder. It’s efficient and takes up SO little space, when not in use, I stick it under my desk and it’s out of the way. A word of caution: the handle is to lift the shredder part, not the canister with the shreds! So be careful, or you’ll end up with shreds to clean off your floor like I did! 🙂 Great product!

Works well and small to leave on the kitchen counter

Works well and small to leave on the kitchen counter without taking too much space. I would buy again. My only wish is that the bottom bin could be secured to the top part so you could carry it by tye handle.

    Nice little shredder!

Talk about simple! It’s ready to go right out of the box. About the size of an oblong gallon milk jug. Controls consist of on, off, and reverse — simple. Really cuts paper up, which is what I wanted for security reasons, where no one could put back together if they wanted to. UI did a search about how to select a shredder for home use, and it was definitely recommended to buy a CROSSCUT shredder, which this one iks.The base is a thick plastic, and the motor/shredding apparatus fits onto the base snugly (doesn ‘t snap on–just sits securely down into the base) and lifts off with use of the handle when needed to empty the base. The handle lays neatly recessed into the top when not in use. The 1st day, I shredded a pretty large bag of old bills and receipts. After maybe 8-10 minutes of shredding, it is ready to be emptied (I just empty into a plastic bag), and then right back to shredding, as it never once got overheated. There is function where it cuts off if it does get overheated, but, as I said, this never seemed to be issue. As far as credit cards, I shredded one and it labored a little but got the job done. I don’t think I would do this on a regular basis, but then I don’t often need this done. It is also OK to shred staples but, here again, I didn’t want to tax the machine so I just tore them out when I found them. The shredder seems to work best with 2 pieces of paper–e.g. folding a single piece of paper long side to long side (this makes 2 pieces/thicknesses and a perfect width to fit comfortably into the opening) even though it will take 4 thicknesses. I did put in the 4 thicknesses a few times, and the machine really slowed down & labored — I can see how doing this over and over may cause overheating. It was just as easy to quickly fold a piece of paper in half as mentioned and stick that through. The shredder comes with a little tool to help dig out any pieces of paper stuck up in the “teeth” which I actually never used because I just used my fingers, being extremely careful not to hold it by the handle and not inadvertently cut it on. With all truthfulness, I didn’t test out the little tool the 1st day because I had placed it in one of the side pockets on the base, and when I emptied the 1st shredding, the tool fell out and into the bag of shreds! Yes, it took digging through all the shreds to find it!! Because of this, I would recommend that the manufacturers devise a snap-on area on the outside of the shredder for this little tiny tool, as it just fits loosely in the side pocket and can (and maybe will again) get easily displaced or lost. Since that 1st day, I have used the tool and it works quite well to get little pieces of stray paper that might remain up a little ways in the teeth. Actually, that’s not a big problem because when you start shredding again, the paper bits will come on out.Other than the easily-lost tool, I would recommend this shredder to anyone who has mail, old bills, receipts, etc. to shred; it’s perfect (and nicely small and compact) for home use.

    Easy and convenient

This review is for the 8-Sheet StripCut/CD without Basket. If you want to cut mail/bills and do it once a month, this is perfect. I understand it’s not the most secure shred, but it’s better than tearing it in half a couple times. It easily slides under a chair so you don’t have a dedicated shredder with basket or really anything taking up space (which is valuable in my office). I have sent decently fat mailers through it and it bogs a little but if you know it’s boundaries its great. I did send a couple credit cards on their mailer through without problem.I was behind many months when it arrived and it’s auto shutoff activated and took about 15 minutes. Then I was right back on it and able to finish. I might be asking a lot of the little guy and wear it out prematurely but it’s working great now and for the price, ease and convenience, it’s great for me.

    Great little shredder

Works perfect, compact design, shreds 4 pieces of paper without any issues. Bucket is smaller due to compact size of shredder but still holds at least a weeks worth of junk mail shredding.
